Our team's latest exploration of Henry James' masterpiece The Portrait of a Lady...
Love. Death. Revenge. Be careful what you wish for.
Exquisite Mistake is an interactive spectacle hinging on the fateful decisions made by the novel’s main characters, Ralph Touchett and Isabel Archer, and examines the peculiarly human, perhaps American, drive to punish ourselves for our happiness. Set in the Rome of Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, with the adaptive irreverence of Warhol’s Vinyl, Exquisite Mistake is a carnival of poor life choices wrapped in the luxury of upper-class indolence, desperation, and desire. Within the arena of the performance space, Ralph and Isabel vie for the audience’s allegiance, rallying for sympathizers as they methodically destroy each other’s lives instead of succumbing to the vulnerability of their own passion. Supported by a Chorus of tricksters who guide and provoke the audience, the performance is a fight to the death, where love is the deadliest affliction and money the most effective weapon.
